Winnipeg, MB: 5 Habits for a Safe Halloween is a quick and easy guide from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) for parents to help practice their safety conversations with kids of all ages. These habits include:
- planning the route they will be taking
- knowing safe adults in their neighborhood
- knowing where to go in case of an emergency
- staying connected to caregivers throughout evening
- using the buddy system
“Conversations about personal safety need to be recurring so that children are creating safe habits in their day to day lives. Halloween serves as a perfect time for kids to practice the safety skills they’ve learned over time, and to build their self confidence in real life situations,” said Noni Classen, Director of Education at the Canadian Centre.
